Admissions Requirements

The EdD is for experienced professionals who are, or aspire to be, educational leaders.

Applicants should (1) hold a Bachelor’s degree with second class honours and a taught Master's degree; or a Bachelor's degree with first class honours; and (2) demonstrate a record of at least 4 years of professional experience in an educational institution or services in the education sector or other relevant sectors as judged appropriate by the Faculty. Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will be considered on their own merits.

 

Application

Application for September 2024 intake is now CLOSED.

Application for September 2025 intake will be opened in December 2024.

Applications should be submitted in electronic format via the online application system at https://www.hku.hk/tpg/programme/doctor-education by the application deadline.

In addition, a "Statement of Proposed Area of Professional Inquiry" regarding the applicant's initial research interest and other supporting documents as .pdf files should be submitted by the deadline to the Office of Research (hkuedd@hku.hk) by email.

Important Note to Applicants

Before submitting an application, applicants are strongly encouraged to seek a potential supervisor’s advice on preparing the Statement of Proposed Area of Professional Inquiry.

Important Note to Non-local Students

Non-local students are required to obtain a valid student visa before commencing studies in Hong Kong. If you are a non-local student and would like to apply for admission to the EdD programme, please contact us before submitting an application.
