“From Past to Present: The Evolution of Speech-Language Pathology Education and Practice in Hong Kong” by Professor Anthony Kong

The captioned seminar, delivered by Professor Anthony Kong, Head of the Faculty’s Academic Unit of Human Communication, Learning, and Development, was held on September 30, 2024. This seminar was part of the Faculty’s Ruby Jubilee celebratory events and also marked the beginning of the Anniversary Seminar Series.
Professor Lawrence Ng, Associate Dean (Outreach and Engagement) of the Faculty, commenced the seminar by introducing the history of the Faculty and outlining the objectives of the seminar series. He underscored the event's unique significance in the 40th anniversary celebrations, emphasising the collective achievements and milestones that have defined the Faculty's journey over the years.
In this seminar, Professor Anthony Kong presented an overview of the evolution of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) education and practice in Hong Kong. He discussed the challenges and current state of the field, while also examining the impact of recent advancements on individuals dealing with communication disorders. Through addressing these aspects, Professor Kong offered a comprehensive perspective on the dynamic nature of speech therapy, providing insights into its evolving landscape.
Following the seminar, Professor Lawrence Ng moderated a lively Q&A session and shared his expertise in SLP. The attendees engaged in discussions with both professors on the topics covered and explored potential future directions for SLP in the region.
