This presentation will provide an overview of the evolution of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) education and practice in Hong Kong from its early days to the present. We will explore the challenges and opportunities that have shaped the development of this profession, and discuss the current state of SLP services in Hong Kong.

 

Additionally, we will highlight the latest advancements in SLP education and practice and elaborate on their effects on the lives of people with communication disorders, both in the local area and GBA regions and in Mainland China. Whether you are a member of the general public, a healthcare professional, or a student, this presentation will provide valuable insights into the vital role that SLP plays in improving the quality of life of people in Hong Kong.         

 

About the Speaker

Anthony Pak-Hin Kong currently serves as the Head of the Academic Unit of Human Communication, Learning, and Development (HCLD) and Director of Aphasia Research and Therapy (ART) Laboratory at The University of Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and Academy of Aphasia. Professor Kong was the Founding Editor-in-Chief of Cogent Gerontology (Taylor & Francis) and was elected as Vice Chairperson of the Hong Kong Association of Speech Therapists (2004-07). Throughout his career, Professor Kong has made significant contributions to the field of aphasiology by developing various language and cognitive tools for clinical assessment of Chinese speakers.
