NIE x HKU International Practicum Exchange Programme 2023-24

A harvest of learning through International Practicum

In summer 2024, a group of students at the Faculty of Education embarked on a transformative journey of teaching and learning by undertaking professional practicum overseas.

Through participation in the NIE x HKU International Practicum Exchange Programme (jointly offered by HKU Faculty of Education and National Institute of Education Singapore), students had an invaluable opportunity to develop a variety of professional skills and attributes during a 4-week teaching placement in local schools in Singapore.

Speaking fondly of their fruitful exchange experience in a debriefing session, students recounted how the programme enabled them to step out their comfort zone, build practical skills as aspiring teachers and gain a deeper understanding of a teacher’s roles and responsibilities in an international, multicultural setting.

Working alongside seasoned educators, students experienced first-hand the challenges schools face but also explored ways to overcome them to help learners grow and thrive. For example, through putting into practice some innovative educational theories and pedagogical instructions, students were able to reap a harvest of opportunities – ranging from catering to learners’ diversity and promoting social well-being and self-directed learning to using AI to enhance student engagement and building productive relationships to create positive outcomes for all key stakeholders.

Committed to enriching student experiences through diverse practicum and experiential learning opportunities, the School-University Partnerships (SUP) Office at the Faculty of Education is proud of our students’ achievements. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities at SUP to expand your repertoire and horizons!
