HKU Faculty of Education and Wenzhou Education Bureau sign a Memorandum of Understanding to drive educational excellence

In a significant step towards advancing education, the Faculty of Education (the Faculty) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Wenzhou Education Bureau have officially established a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 15, 2025 at HKU. The signing ceremony was presided over by Professor Yang Rui, Dean of the Faculty and Mr Zheng Huandong, Director of the Wenzhou Education Bureau. This collaboration aims to foster a comprehensive and forward-thinking educational environment for both parties.


In Professor Yang Rui’s opening speech, he underscored the rich historical and cultural heritage of Wenzhou, emphasising the importance of integrating educational innovation with traditional philosophies. He expressed confidence that this partnership would strengthen academic exchange and integrate the wisdom of diverse cultures, thereby enriching the learning experience for students from both parties. 


Mr Zheng Huandong highlighted the multifaceted nature of the collaboration, noting its potential to bring transformative changes in key areas of Wenzhou’s educational landscape, including the advancement of STEAM learning and basic education. He anticipated that this partnership would not only enhance the global competence of Wenzhou students but also facilitate teacher training and professional development across the region.


The signing of the MOU marks the beginning of a promising journey towards educational excellence. By leveraging the strengths of the Faculty of Education at HKU and the Wenzhou Education Bureau, this partnership is expected to significantly benefit students, researchers, educators, and the broader community.
