NIE X HKU e-Practicum Buddy Scheme (2022-23)
Drawing on the very positive virtual collaboration experiences in 2020-21 and 2021-22, HKU and NIE are pleased to continue the e-Practicum Buddy Scheme in 2022-23 and beyond, especially to pave the way for resumption of inbound and outbound student exchanges in 2023.
A total of 10 HKU students were paired up with 10 NIE buddies. Together, they organised online activities and weekly sessions including a webinar (on Special Needs Education and Sexuality Education) during 6th February to 6th March 2023.
During the weekly interactive meetings, the HKU and NIE students worked in pairs to explore on topics regarding the two educational systems. They looked into specific educational issues, including catering for students with special educational needs (SEN), sexuality education, private tutoring, medium of instruction (MOI) and education reforms. Game sessions and buddy systems were designed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among the students as well as their active engagement in the activities.
Throughout the programme, HKU and NIE students worked together to share ideas and learn from each other's experiences and perspectives. Through active participation in the weekly activities, they have gained a deeper understanding of the education systems in both Singapore and Hong Kong. Above all, the students have developed good rapport and shared a fruitful learning journey together.

NIE X HKU Online Collaboration programme (2020-21)
Given that all inbound and outbound student exchanges with Singapore National Institute of Education (NIE), our partner institution for exchange, have been suspended due to COVID-19, the NIE x HKU Online Collaboration program aims to provide an alternative platform for students at HKU and NIE to have the opportunities to immerse in some sort of overseas experience through online collaboration amid the pandemic ("e-Practicum Buddy Scheme"). A total of 16 students, with eight students from each institution, joined this programme which was launched in February 2021.
To date, an orientation session followed by three webinars and a closing session have been organised on Sunday evenings from 28 February to 28 March 2021. During the orientation, students from NIE and HKU had a brief introduction about themselves and the programme, they also paired themselves up (e.g. one HKU student and one NIE student in each pair) and had worked together since in organising the three public webinars in March 2021 to facilitate mutual understanding towards the educational issues of Hong Kong and Singapore respectively. Details of the webinars are as follows:
Webinar 1: Education System (Possible academic paths throughout HK & SG students’ study journey, types of schools in HK & SG, entrance examinations)
Webinar 2: Educational Reform (Change in assessment, compulsory schooling or subjects)
Webinar 3: Sharing of Curriculum (Sharing of subject-specific curriculum, pedagogy, different educational issues)
