Yes, candidates holding a recognised full-time Higher Diploma (HD) or Associate Degree (AD) programme in any discipline of at least two years in duration from a community college in Hong Kong are eligible to apply for admission.  Final-year students on such programmes can also apply and admission, if applicable, will be subject to the completion of the AD or HD programme by August 2024.  Please submit your application through "Admissions to Senior Year Places (Direct Admissions Scheme)".

Application for admission in September 2024 is now open and the first round application deadline is 12:00 noon, November 15, 2023 (Hong Kong Time).  Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered as late applications, which will be accepted before 12:00 noon, August 22, 2024 (Hong Kong Time).  As undergraduate places are being filled all the time, you are advised to apply for admission as early as possible.

You can still apply for admissions to the University in September 2024, provided that you can submit your final examination results and any other required documents by July / August 2024 (exact date to be announced).  You should submit the application form first before the first round application deadline, i.e. 12:00 noon, November 15, 2023 (Hong Kong Time) and then send the final examination results to the University as soon as possible.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and/or an interview in late February/ March 2024.  The test and interview arrangement will be sent to shortlisted candidates by e-mail in February/ March 2024.  However, being invited to attend a test / an interview is not an indicator of the chance of admission.

You will receive an admission offer starting from March to the end of August 2024.  However, if you are placed on a waiting list, you may not hear the result of your application until even later.  If you are unlikely to be offered a place, the University will try to let you know as soon as possible via the online application status system of the Direct Admissions Scheme.

The BSc(IM) programme is a UGC-funded programme.  The composition (tuition) fee for the academic year 2023-24 is HK$42,100 for local students.  The fee for 2024-25 will be announced in due course.

To facilitate our consideration of your application, please upload the following supporting documents to the Online Application System by the application deadline, if you have not yet done so when completing your online application.  Late submission of supporting documents will delay the consideration of your application.

  • Personal identification: a photocopy of your identification document (e.g. HKID card / passport / National identity card / birth certificate
  • Final / latest academic transcript(s) / examination results
  • Either IELTS or TOELF (Strongly recommended as good performance in either test will be a good advantage)
  • National/ International examination results in detail e.g. HKCEE, HKALE, HKDSE, GCSE, GCE A-level, including in the case of GCE AL / AS level, the Statement of Results which shows the numerical scores achieved
  • Referee's report (Word format, pdf format) or reference letter completed by your school principal or teacher, or by an academic referee. (For confidential reference to be submitted to the University directly, please post it to the Admissions Office at MG14, Ground Floor, Main Building, The University of Hong Kong, Pokfulam Road, Hong Kong.  Your full name, application number, date of birth and first choice of curriculum should be specified on the reference for identification purpose.)
  • (Optional but preferred)A summary of not more than two A4-size pages of your extra-curricular activities, personal achievements, working experience, and any other relevant information supporting your application.

For results to be released at a later date, please arrange to upload them to the system once available.  Please note that you are not required to submit hard copy and / or a certified copy of your documents to the University during the application stage. Should you be given an admission offer by the University, you will receive notification to submit such a certified copy of your documents.

Please refer to the Step by Step Guide (For Sub-Degree Applicants) for more details.

The course Internship is a core course for all BSc(IM) students.  Students will apply what they learn from their academic studies into real-life situations by working on information management related projects through an internship experience in an organization.  The internship will normally be taken place in the summer of students’ first year of studies for not less than 160 hours.
