The University entrance requirements and our Faculty entrance requirement can be viewed in the HKU website "JUPAS Admissions Scheme - Admissions Standards".

There is no direct entry to Year 2 or 3 for the BEd(ECE&SE) programme. Candidates holding a recognised full-time Higher Diploma (HD) or Associate Degree (AD) in Early Childhood Education of at least two years in duration from a community college in Hong Kong are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Science (Applied Child Development) programme.

Candidates studying bachelor's degree programmes in Hong Kong or overseas (except Mainland China) may apply through the International Admissions Scheme / Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme for a transfer and indicate in the application their preference for credit transfer or direct entry. Requests for credit transfer will be considered by the Faculty after you have been admitted to the University. Bachelor’s degree students studying programmes funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC) in local tertiary institutions may wish to note that inter-institutional transfer is generally discouraged unless there are exceptional circumstances and such transfer has been specially approved by the university on the basis of over-enrolment.  Please refer to the "Important Information" for International Admissions Scheme/ Non-JUPAS Admissions Scheme for further details.

Local / non-local candidates attending bachelor's degree programmes in Mainland universities could refer to the information about the "Mainland Admissions Scheme " for details.

Normally only Band A applicants will be considered favourably in admission. Applicants should put our Programme in Band A to increase their chances of admission.

No. of first year places: 16*

*As the 2025/26 academic year is the beginning of the 2025/26 - 2027/28 triennium for which the allocation of UGC-funded places are still subject to the Government's approval, the number of intake places shown above is indicative only and subject to changes or confirmation.

The number of places is not pre-determined, it will depend on the quality of JUPAS and non-JUPAS applicants.

Selected JUPAS and non-JUPAS applicants who meet University Entrance Requirements will be invited for a written test and/or an interview. JUPAS applicants will be invited for interviews after the announcement of the JUPAS results. Being invited to a written test and/or an interview is not an indicator of the chance of admission. We will notify candidates of the arrangement for written test and/or interview by e-mail or phone, if necessary.

The interview provides an opportunity for the academic staff to meet you and find out your personal qualities and interest in the Programme. You will also have the chance to learn more about the Programme.

Applicants will be asked a wide range of questions. It is important to be yourself, so preparation of short speeches is discouraged.

Combined HKDSE certificates are allowed, for best results in two or more sittings, with no penalty.

BEd(ECE&SE) students will undertake practicum in child care centres, special child care centres and kindergartens.
