Professor Liz Jackson honoured with the
Karen Lo Eugene Chuang Professorship in Diversity and Equity

Professor Liz Jackson, Assistant Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Education, has been selected for the conferment of the prestigious Karen Lo Eugene Chuang Professorship in Diversity and Equity at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). This achievement recognises Professor Jackson’s outstanding leadership and scholarship in the philosophy and global studies of education.
Educated at the University of Cambridge and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Professor Jackson first joined HKU in 2012 and served for eight years. She returned to the University in 2023. With a remarkable career dedicated to advancing diversity and equity, Professor Jackson’s impactful research explores diversity issues such as religion, culture, race and ethnicity, gender, and social class across societies worldwide, including Hong Kong and Mainland China, the United States, Bangladesh, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Chile, and Tanzania.
Professor Jackson has published 20 books, 200 journal articles and book chapters, and has delivered more than 50 invited international lectures. Her distinguished work has received global recognition, placing her among the World’s Top 2% Most Cited Scientists by Stanford University/Elsevier since 2021. Her research is highly acclaimed and has earned her over 15 awards, including the HKU Research Output Prize, the Inaugural Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia Book Award, the American Educational Studies Association Critics’ Choice Award, and the Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award.
Beyond her research, Professor Jackson’s dedication to local and global service also shines through her multiple leadership roles and contributions within various educational organisations. She is currently President of the Comparative Education Society of Hong Kong, Chair of the Special Interest Group on Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism of the American Educational Research Association, and a Member of the Ethics and Religious Studies Subject Panel of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority. Within the Faculty of Education and HKU, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to nurturing future generations through her extensive service and leadership.
The Karen Lo Eugene Chuang Professorship in Diversity and Equity is a prestigious endowed professorship established at HKU through the generosity of Ms Karen Lo and Mr Eugene Chuang. Inspired by their vision to foster a more empathetic world, this professorship supports scholarship, research, and initiatives in the vital areas of diversity and equity.
