Rosie Young 90 Medal for Outstanding Young Woman Scholar 2024

Professor Lo Yuen Yi, Associate Dean (Learning & Teaching) of the Faculty of Education, has been awarded the prestigious Rosie Young 90 Medal for Outstanding Young Woman Scholar in recognition of her remarkable contributions to both the University and the community.

Professor Lo graduated from the BEd (English Language) programme of the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). In 2012, she returned to the Faculty, where she exemplifies the qualities of a well-rounded educator, researcher, and leader. As a researcher with exceptional publication and grant records, Professor Lo is deeply committed to giving back to society. Her impactful research projects are closely connected to the community. The school-based projects led by Professor Lo have directly informed the Government’s Medium of Instruction policy, while her professional development workshops and support programmes have disseminated valuable insights to schools and teachers in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Japan, and the UK.

In addition to her extensive service on University committees, Professor Lo also serves on various NGOs and Government bodies, including the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) and the Assessment Working Group of the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence. She has also been recognised as a Star Mentor for the Government’s Strive and Rise Programme, reflecting her passion and contribution to inspiring future generations.

The Rosie Young 90 Medal for Outstanding Young Woman Scholar was established to honour the immense achievements of Professor Rosie Young, a world-renowned educator, as well as the first female Dean of Medicine and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of HKU. The Medal aims to recognise and encourage talented young female academics to follow in Professor Young’s footsteps by serving the University and the community with distinction.

Our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Lo on this outstanding achievement!
