Lecture on “The Origin of Academic Cheating in Adults and Children and How to Mitigate it”
The Faculty of Education and the Department of Psychology at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will co-host a Distinguished Lecture titled “The Origin of Academic Cheating in Adults and Children and How to Mitigate it” on June 29, 2026 (Monday). The lecture will be delivered by Professor Kang Lee of the University of Toronto.
Professor Lee will explore the history, psychology, and science of academic cheating. Drawing on recent research, he will reveal how dishonest behaviours emerge in early childhood, examine the cognitive and social factors that drive them, and discuss practical interventions to reduce cheating in both children and adults.

About the Speaker
Professor Kang Lee is a Professor and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Developmental Neuroscience at the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development, OISE, University of Toronto, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. For more than three decades, he has used behavioural science, neuroscience, and machine learning to study the development of dishonesty and related behaviours (lying, cheating, and stealing). He has published over 350 papers, been cited more than 33,000 times (H index: 97), and ranks among the world’s most highly cited researchers. Professor Lee holds 13 patents and has received funding from major agencies in Canada, the United States, and China. His work has shaped Canadian legal reform on child witnesses, influenced clinical practice, and led to widely used contactless health-monitoring technologies. He is also a widely recognised public scholar, TED speaker, and recipient of numerous national and international awards, including the Governor’s Innovation Award in Canada.

「成人與兒童學術作弊的根源及緩解方法」
香港大學教育學院及心理學系將於2026年6月29日(星期一)合辦講座,主題為「成人與兒童學術作弊的根源及緩解方法」(The Origin of Academic Cheating in Adults and Children and How to Mitigate it)。是次講座由加拿大多倫多大學的李康教授 (Professor Kang Lee) 主講。
李教授將在講座中探討學術作弊的歷史及其心理學與科學基礎。他將透過近期研究,揭示不誠實行為如何在幼兒時期萌芽及分析驅動這些行為背後的認知與社會因素,並提出減少兒童與成人作弊行為的實際介入方式。

關於講者
李康教授現為多倫多大學安大略教育研究院應用心理學與人類發展系教授、加拿大一級研究講座教授(發展神經科學),並為加拿大皇家學會院士。李教授三十多年來一直運用行為科學、神經科學及機器學習法,研究不誠實行為(包括說謊、作弊與盜竊)的發展。他曾發表逾350篇論文,被引用超過33,000次,H指數 (H index) 為97,被列為全球高被引學者之一。李教授持有13項專利,曾獲加拿大、美國及中國主要機構的資助。他的研究不僅推動了加拿大關於兒童證人的法律改革,亦對臨床實踐產生重要影響,其研發的非接觸式健康監測技術更被廣泛應用。此外,李教授是一位備受國際認可的公共學者及TED講者,曾獲多項國家及國際殊榮,包括加拿大總督創新獎等。
