Restructuring of the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong

With effect from January 1, 2024, the Faculty of Education has reorganized our three Academic Units into four Academic Units:

Old Academic UnitsNew Academic Units
  1. Teacher Education and Learning Leadership (TELL)
  2. Social Contexts and Policies of Education (SCAPE)
  3. Human Communication, Development, and Information Sciences (CDIS)
  1. Language and Literacy Education (LALE)
  2. Human Communication, Learning, and Development (HCLD)
  3. Mathematics, Science, and Technology (MST)
  4. Social Contexts and Policies of Education (SCAPE)

This restructuring is a response to the Faculty Review 2021/22, which called for reflection on how the Faculty’s organization and structures support our goals in a currently evolving context and how the Faculty’s capacity can be strengthened for ongoing, strategic academic planning and decision-making.

Under the unitary Faculty of Education, our Academic Units are not teaching departments or sub-divisions of studies and learning under the University Ordinances and Statutes, but internal structures that serve as communities of scholars and educators. Our undergraduate and postgraduate curricula are implemented at the Faculty level.

The newly designed Academic Units aim to enhance interactions and coherence among staff in cognate disciplines, facilitating more effective communications that incubate and promote collaborative initiatives in teaching, research, and knowledge exchange for the Faculty’s strategic development. More details about each Academic Unit are available at our website: https://web.edu.hku.hk/unit.

We are very proud of being placed among the world’s best education faculties, thanks to the unremitting efforts of our staff members, and the consistent support of our students, alumni and valuable partners within and outside the University. We will continue to strive for excellence and look forward to deepening our engagements with you through our exciting new initiatives.
