40th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

The Faculty of Education organised a celebration dinner commemorating its 40^th Anniversary on December 13. Distinguished guests, alumni, community partners, faculty members and students gathered for a memorable evening, reflecting on the Faculty’s achievements over the past four decades. 

The dinner began with remarks by Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong. He applauded the Faculty’s accomplishments and extended his congratulations on behalf of the University Management, offering his best wishes for the Faculty’s continued success.

The presence of Dr Charles Chen Yidan, Founder of the Yidan Prize and Core Founder of Tencent, brought great honour to the event. During the address, Dr Chen shared his childhood experiences and how his family influenced his vision for education. He emphasised the pivotal role of education in shaping society and highlighted his strong belief in the power of philanthropy to create a better world through education.

Professor Yang Rui, Dean of Education, expressed his gratitude to all guests for their participation. He also conveyed appreciation to the faculty staff for their dedication, acknowledged the contributions of the alumni and community partners, and encouraged students to make meaningful contributions to society. He concluded by reaffirming the Faculty’s commitment to leading the study and practice of education, and improving community life through education.

The celebration was further enriched by the inspiring sharing from three distinguished alumni – Dr Daphne Ho, Headteacher of Diocesan Boys' School Primary Division; Ms Corina Chen, Principal of Hong Kong University Graduate Association College; and Mr Danny Au, Speech Therapist Officer of Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service - HK. Their reflections provided valuable insights into their personal journeys and experiences in the field of education.

The Faculty of Education would like to thank everyone who made the anniversary celebration truly special. The Faculty will continue to be committed to Touching Hearts and Inspiring Minds in the years to come.
