2024 UGC Teaching Award (Collaborative Teams Category)

The Holistic Competency and Virtues Education (HAVE) Team led by Professor Cecilia Chan, Professor of the Faculty’s Academic Unit of Social Contexts and Policies of Education and Founding Director of the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre, has won the 2024 UGC Teaching Award (Collaborative Teams Category). The HAVE Team also comprises Professor Samson Tse, Dean of Student Affairs of The University of Hong Kong, Professor Albert Ko of Lingnan University, Professor Ben Chan of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Dr Theresa Kwong of Hong Kong Baptist University.

The goal of HAVE is to cultivate students’ essential competencies, including leadership, teamwork, communication, lifelong learning, creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, etc. The team has developed a Holistic Competency Development Framework which has positively impacted thousands of students across various universities. It also encourages educators to design activities that address students' developmental needs.

The initiatives of the team have enriched professional development of more than 1,300 educators through the establishment of a Community of Practice and the HAVE U Can programme — the largest cross-institutional residential programme.

The UGC Teaching Award honour academics for their outstanding teaching performance and achievements, as well as their leadership and scholarly contributions to teaching and learning within and across universities at UGC-funded institutions.
