Abstract:

Writing is an essential skill for academic success and effective communication in both personal and professional realms. In traditional writing instruction, teachers assign writing task and students complete it in class or outside of class, and teachers then grade them one by one. This process is time consuming and teacher’s feedback are often delayed. The low rate of student revision after writing evaluation is also a prominent problem in traditional writing instruction. The emergence of Artifitial Intelligence (AI) has provided possibilities for innovative writing teaching. The presentation will focus on the practice and studies related to AI-assisted writing instruction. It includes four parts of contents: (1) current status of writing instruction; (2) possibility of AI-assisted writing instruction innovation in the age of AI; (3) case studies of AWE-assisted writing instruction; and (4) case study of GAI-assisted writing practice.
