Abstract:
Citation counts and journal impact factors are considered important indictors of research achievements in some academic fields, despite a lack of convincing evidence that they are related to research quality. Using evidence from the UK, this talk summarizes a large scale science-wide analysis of the relationship between research quality and both article and journal citation rates. It also uses the same evidence to assess whether funding and collaboration associate with higher quality research in any or all fields.
