eCitizen Education 360 (2022) – final release of findings:
“New Insights on Key Factors Impacting Students’ Wellbeing and Schools’ Online Teaching
Calling for Collaboration to Establish a Digital New Normal”

It has been three years since the outbreak of the epidemic, which has caused devastating impacts globally, and Hong Kong has also been severely affected. The cumulative impact of recurring school suspensions during the multiple waves of the epidemic has propelled different education stakeholders in Hong Kong to tirelessly explore, reflect, and make progress so as to overcome the challenges. Nevertheless, despite the initial panic, we are also entering a new stage of digital technology as we move towards recovery after experiencing the devastating impact of the pandemic on students’ learning and well-being and adapting to the New Normal

The “eCitizen Education 360 (2022)” study, carried out by a team of researchers from The University of Hong Kong (HKU) based on the “eCitizen Education 360 (2020)” study, has continued to study these changes. The team released the first batch of findings in November 2022 on the status of different educational sectors, including students, parents, and schools in the New Normal and provided insights and recommendations for their positive actions. In this press conference, the second batch (which is also the last batch) of findings will be released, with the aim to provide a deeper understanding of the relationships among the key factors influencing the students’ wellbeing and the schools’ online teaching and provide recommendations. The recommendations aim to empower and foster collaboration among diverse education stakeholders to support our students, parents, and schools to adapt effectively to the digital new era.

The participating schools in this study were located widely from 16 districts in Hong Kong, involving 20 primary schools and 31 secondary schools. In this press conference, Professor Nancy Law, Associate Dean (Research) and Deputy Director of Centre for Information Technology in Education (CITE), Faculty of Education, HKU, will present the last batch of research findings and provide recommendations for actions. Representatives from the supporting organisations of the project would also join the press conference.
