Faculty Induction Talk welcomes 2025-26 Undergraduate Students

The Faculty of Education hosted the Faculty Induction Talk for 2025-26 New Undergraduate Students on August 15, 2025, marking the start of a promising new chapter for our freshers. This event was designed to introduce students to the vibrant academic community at HKU while equipping them with essential tools and resources for a smooth transition into university life.

The event began with a warm welcome and an engaging introduction to the Faculty by Professor Lo Yuen Yi, Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), who guided students through the Faculty’s rich history, its structure, and achievements. The interactive session encouraged active participation and sparked enthusiasm among the students.

To further inspire students on their journey at the Faculty, Dr Elizabeth Barrett, Assistant Dean (Learning and Teaching), provided practical advice on academic advising and suggestions for taking full advantage of the first-year experience, helping students navigate university life with confidence. In addition, Ms Rowena Liu from the Faculty’s Experiential Learning Team introduced the wide array of experiential learning opportunities, which are designed to enrich students’ education beyond the classroom and foster both personal and professional growth.

Students were also introduced to the extensive support available more widely at HKU. Mr Laurence Tang, Director of Campus Life at the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS), highlighted the resources for student wellbeing and campus engagement. To promote an inclusive and supportive environment, Mr Bernie Ma, Head of the Equal Opportunity Unit, outlined HKU’s Equal Opportunity Policy, reinforcing the University’s commitment to diversity and equality. Ms Carly Ng from the Centre for Applied English Studies (CAES) introduced targeted English language resources to empower undergraduates to excel on their academic journey.

We are delighted to welcome this year’s freshers to the Faculty of Education. As they embark on the exciting journey ahead, we look forward to supporting their growth and celebrating their achievements every step of the way.
