Updated on November 03, 2025 (Mon)

We are pleased to announce the recipients of the Faculty Outstanding Teaching Award 2024-25. The following awardees have demonstrated exceptional dedication to teaching, student engagement, and curriculum innovation:
Dr Anthony Cheng, Lecturer of the Academic Unit of Mathematics, Science, and Technology, adopts a case-based, student-centred teaching approach that nurtures reflection, fosters leadership, and bridges theory with practice. His teaching philosophy centres on the concept of the university as a “liminal space”, where students are invited to explore, question, and reshape their understanding of themselves and the world around them. The impact of his teaching, along with his commitment to curriculum development and professional growth, has been affirmed by both students and colleagues.
Ms Nicole Tavares, Senior Lecturer of the Academic Unit of Language and Literacy Education, demonstrates an innovative approach to teaching by blending creativity, research-informed practice, and global collaboration. Her portfolio highlights innovative practices such as Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiative, Students-as-Partners mentoring, and personalised feedback channels that foster deep engagement. Her contributions to curriculum design and English Language Education have inspired numerous students and colleagues across the Faculty, the University, and the wider professional community.
Congratulations to Dr Cheng and Ms Tavares on the achievements in teaching excellence!
