Professor Jimmy de la Torre selected as 2026 AERA Fellow

We are delighted to announce that Professor Jimmy de la Torre, Professor in the Faculty’s Academic Unit of Human Communication, Learning, and Development, has been selected as a 2026 Fellow of the American Educational Research Association (AERA).


This recognition acknowledges Professor de la Torre’s significant contributions to education research and his unwavering commitment to academic excellence. He is among the 34 exemplary scholars worldwide who have been named AERA Fellows this year.


The AERA Fellows Programme honours scholars for their outstanding achievements in education research. Candidates are nominated by their peers and selected by the Fellows Committee, with approval made by the AERA Council. A distinguished scholar in psychometrics, Professor Jimmy de la Torre has been elected the 90th President of the Psychometric Society for the 2026–2027 term. He is widely known for his work on cognitive diagnosis models (CDMs), which combine features of latent class models and item response models and support a wide range of applications.
