Emotional Management and Communication Skills Workshop for Early Childhood Educators
Updated on April 10, 2026 (Fri)

To support educators affected by the tragic fire in Tai Po in November 2025, the Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Education Bureau’s Tai Po District Office, organised the “Emotional Management and Communication Skills Workshop for Early Childhood Educators” on March 18, 2026, at Tai Po Government Primary School. A total of 13 principals and 39 teachers participated in this workshop.
Following the incident, teachers in the district may have experienced stress, emotional strain, and feelings of suppression without appropriate outlets for expression. The workshop aimed to support teachers in managing their own emotions while caring for the emotional well-being of their students and parents, thereby enabling a more effective support system for the community.
The workshop comprised two interconnected components. In the first session, Dr Queenie Lee and Ms Janna Chan from the Faculty introduced emotional management techniques and relaxation methods. The second session involved Dr Lee sharing communication strategies and key considerations for engaging with parents and young children. Dr Rhoda Wang, Dr Diana Lee, and Dr Promail Leung also contributed to the team’s planning and facilitation of the event. The workshop received very positive feedback, and Ms Bonnie Siow, Chief School Development Officer (Tai Po), expressed her appreciation to the Faculty representatives.
This workshop marked an important step in promoting teacher well-being and strengthening the emotional resilience of early childhood educators in Tai Po. It also offered meaningful emotional and professional support to the wider community.
