The NETTI at the HKU Faculty of Education spans two years of full-time studies.
First Year: Master of Education (MEd)
The MEd degree requires completion of 60 credits:
- Core Course (6 credits)
- Educational Issues and Research: a course that covers key topics and research methods in education.
- Specialist Courses (24 credits)
- Complete four specialist courses (6 credits each) in one of the Specialist Strands: Mathematics Education or STEM Education
- Capstone (12 credits)
- Choose between a Research Project (12 credits) or a Professional Portfolio (12 credits)
- Electives (18 credits)
- Research Project route: enrol in one “Advanced Research Methods” elective and two additional electives
- Professional Portfolio route: three electives
* Some Specialist Strands offer specialist electives that counts towards the 18 credits.

Second Year: Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
The PGDE degree requires completion of 60 credits in one of the majors: Mathematics (Secondary), or Science (Secondary) in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
- Pedagogical Content Knowledge
- Methods (12 credits)
- Collaborative Lesson Inquiry (6 credits)
- Integrated Inquiry
- Educational Inquiry (18 credits)
- School Experience: assigned by the Faculty’s School-University Partnerships Office in consultation with the Methods Tutors.
- Experiential Learning
- Experiential Learning (Placement) (6 credits): non-language majors will undertake an Experiential Learning (EL) placement arranged with support from the Faculty of Education EL Team.
- Professional Practicum (12 credits): assigned by the Faculty’s School-University Partnerships Office in consultation with the Methods Tutors.
- Elective (6 credits)
- Capstone (non-credit bearing)
- Students are required to present a synthesis of their professional learning and progress towards achieving the PGDE “Concept of a teacher” in a Capstone event. The capstone is a hurdle requirement for graduation.
