The Faculty of Education of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) proudly presents the Lecture of the Academy for Leadership in Teacher Education (ALiTE) International Lecture Series for Exemplary Scholarship on “Making Learning Visible: The Sequel”. The Lecture will be delivered by Professor John Hattie, Laureate Professor Emeritus, Melbourne Graduate School of Education, The University of Melbourne, in mid-May 2023.

 

In this Lecture, Professor Hattie will discuss the importance of educator expertise, evaluative thinking, intentionally aligning teaching with the depth of complexity within lessons, and ensuring schools are seen by students as inviting, safe, and fair to make errors, learn with peers, and where they have great teachers by design not by chance.

Professor John Hattie is Laureate Professor Emeritus at the University of Melbourne, Chair of the Australian Institute for Teachers and Learners, and Co-director of the Hattie Family Foundation. Professor Hattie's work is internationally acclaimed. His influential 2008 book Visible Learning: A Synthesis of Over 800 Meta-analyses Relating to Achievement is believed to be the world’s largest evidence-based study into the factors that improve student learning. Professor Hattie’s Visible Learning research is based on 400 million students and he continues to update this research. He has published and presented over 1,500 papers, and supervised 200 thesis students, and 60 books – including 24 on Visible Learning. Professor Hattie was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours, is a Fellow of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders and the American Psychological Association.
