HKU Education rises to 2nd globally in 2026 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has attained its highest-ever position of second place in the world in the 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) by ShanghaiRanking for the subject of Education, while remaining ranked first in Asia. This outstanding result reflects HKU’s enduring commitment to advancing educational research and innovation, and reinforces the Faculty of Education’s reputation and global leadership in education.

 

Professor Yang Rui, Dean of Education, expressed his delight at this record-high in the GRAS. “This achievement reflects the collective efforts of our Faculty members in producing research of the highest quality and publishing in leading international journals. It also speaks to the strength of our global research partnerships, which continue to broaden the reach and relevance of our work. I am deeply grateful to our Faculty members for their commitment to advancing educational knowledge and impact worldwide.”

 

The GRAS evaluates approximately 2,000 universities worldwide across 57 subjects in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. The ranking is based on nine objective indicators grouped into five categories: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact, and International Collaboration.
