Professor Gerard Postiglione receives the 7th Ming Yuan Education Award (Outstanding Contribution Award for Overseas Chinese Education Research)

We are pleased to share that Professor Gerard Postiglione, Emeritus Professor and Honorary Professor of the Faculty of Education at HKU, has received the 7th Ming Yuan Education Award (Outstanding Contribution Award for Overseas Chinese Education Research) at a ceremony held in Beijing Normal University on November 29, 2025. 

 

“I have always admired Professor Gu Mingyuan. He brought China’s intellectual heritage and humanistic educational vision to the world. I am deeply honoured to receive this award, and I will continue to contribute to international research on China’s educational philosophy, policy, and practice,” said Professor Postiglione.

 

Professor Postiglione was the Founding Director of the HKU’s Wah Ching Center of Research on Education in China. He was also Editor of the journal Chinese Education and Society for 30 years. He continues to be the chief editor of four book series on the subject of education in China. His newest book, Higher Education in China: Domestic Demands and Global Aspirations (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2026), explores critical developments in China’s higher education landscape. He has published books and articles on education and social change in China, including topics such as China’s rural education in transition, ethnic minority education, provincial vocational-technical education, and China's world-class universities. His policy reports were received by the State Education Commission, Ministry of Education, and Provincial Departments of Education. Professor Postiglione has also held visiting professorships at leading institutions including the Peking University School of Education, Shanghai Jiaotong University Graduate School of Education, Chinese Academy of Social Science, and Minzu University. 

 

Established in 2013 by the Ming Yuan Education Foundation, the Ming Yuan Education Award is presented biennially to promote the integration of educational theory and practice, and foster innovation in educational research in China.
