Faculty Induction Talk welcomes New Undergraduate Students for 2026-27

The Faculty of Education warmly welcomed the 2026-27 cohort of new undergraduate students at the Faculty Induction Talk on August 14, 2026. The event offered students a comprehensive introduction to the Faculty and the wide range of resources available to support their transition to university life.
The programme commenced with a welcoming address by Professor Lo Yuen Yi, Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), who outlined the Faculty’s educational mission, learning opportunities, and supportive academic environment. She encouraged students to make the most of their time at HKU and emphasised the importance of academic integrity as a foundation for academic excellence. Professor Lo also shared the Faculty’s experiential learning initiatives, which enable students to broaden their perspectives beyond the classroom.
Students were also introduced to key academic support services available during their studies. Dr Elizabeth Barrett, Assistant Dean (Learning and Teaching), explained the Faculty’s academic advising framework and first-year experience initiatives, both designed to help students achieve their academic goals. Mr Nelson Chau from the Academic Advising and Scholarships Office (AASO) highlighted the advising and scholarship support available to students, while Ms Carly Ng from the Centre for Applied English Studies (CAES) introduced the English language support resources that can help strengthen students’ communication skills.
In addition, Mr Bernie Ma, Head of the Equal Opportunity Unit, presented HKU’s Equal Opportunity Policy, underscoring the University’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment. Mr Nash Kong, Chairperson of the Education Society, also gave an overview of the Society’s mission and activities, inviting students to take part in its diverse events throughout the year.
As the newest members of the Faculty prepare to begin their journey at HKU, they were encouraged to explore new possibilities, develop their talents, and grow both academically and personally in the years ahead.
