Abstract:
Like the world around us, educational assessment is changing, in some ways quite rapidly. This talk covers three trends, two of which are related to AI. The trends are: Through-Year Assessment, Remote Testing, and Generative AI. But even with these changes, each of which is already appearing in operational testing programs, there are important constants - i.e., aspects of assessment that won’t change. Those constants are why we do assessment, assessment’s fundamental characteristics, and the social values that underlie it. The challenge is, in yin-yang fashion, to find the right balance between constants and change.
