Embarking on a PhD involves walking on a risky, rocky road less traveled. One may experience common feelings such as the imposter syndrome, high expectations, and perfectionism while also being overwhelmed in a new city. However, the supportive community at the Faculty of Education, HKU has enabled me to flourish. My inspiring supervisor, opportunities to engage with illustrious experts and participate in thought-provoking conferences combined with the state-of-the-art facilities provided by HKU have allowed me to develop my strengths as a passionate and independent researcher. More importantly, I have also learnt to accept being vulnerable, asking for and getting critique, and that has been truly transformative.
