Financial Education in Hong Kong

Background of Co-organiser

Financial Education Centre (FEC), Hong Kong Family Welfare Society (HKFWS) is a charitable non-governmental social welfare organisation established in 1949. We aim to deliver quality and professional social services to enhance the well-being of families and individuals in Hong Kong in order to foster a caring community. We have been providing services including integrated family services, integrated children and youth services, elderly and community support services, child care services and other specialised services.

Since 2007, the project ‘The Children Financial Literacy Project’ has been launched and delivered different financial education programmes to different schools. In 2017, we established the Financial Education Centre in Lai Chi Kok so as to root ourselves in the community. FEC is designed to promote financial literacy of children, youth, and parents through experiential activities, edutainment programs, and social media platforms and reach out to different social strata in the society.

Objectives

Our centre is supported by various renowned funders such as HSBC, Community Chest, Hand Seng Bank, etc. The projects aim at:

  • enhancing the awareness of the importance of financial literacy in the community
  • enhancing the financial well-being of the younger generation, as well as their parents, in primary, secondary, and tertiary levels
  • developing the Financial Social Work model in the social welfare sector, from financial education to clinical intervention in Hong Kong. Since the project focuses on developing students’ attitudes and behaviours of financial management from childhood, FEC service targets are mainly primary and secondary school students and their parents.
