Background of Co-organiser

 

Established in 2018, Free Periods Hong Kong (FPHK) is currently the only registered charitable organisation in Hong Kong that focuses on supporting underprivileged women, girls, people who menstruate, and their carers who are experiencing menstruation-related challenges, mentally, physically and financially.

 

Objectives

 

  • Provide comprehensive period-positive education to different groups of people who menstruate, focusing on youth, low-income individuals and ethnic minorities
  • Create diverse and accessible period education materials that cater to the unique needs and experiences of these communities

 

Project Details

 

  • Develop interactive workshops and curriculum on menstrual health, hygiene and related topics
  • Produce educational resources including brochures, videos and online content in multiple languages
  • Collaborate with community organisations to deliver tailored period education programmes
  • Advocate for the integration of menstrual education into school and workplace settings
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of the educational initiatives for continual improvement

 

Date

 

  • 23 September - 29 October 2024 (The period education and material creation project will be an ongoing initiative that spans the entire EL period)
  • Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm
  • Students may need to work on public holidays and Saturdays upon request.

  • Workshop 514, Hong Leong Plaza (Phase 1), 33 Lok Yip Road, Fanling, New Territories
  • Other workshop locations in Hong Kong

 

Eligibility

 

PGDE (full-time) students of all majors who are:

 

  • well-organised, detail-minded with a strong sense of responsibility and time management skills
  • creative thinker
  • fast learner, innovative with critical thinking
  • knowledgeable in graphical and design softwares (Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).

 

Application Deadline and Procedure

  • Complete the application form at HKU Moodle (Part 1) AND
  • Upload the following documents to the respective project folder at HKU Moodle (Part 2) (Please combine all documents into one Word/PDF file)
    1. A short paragraph (around 200 words) explaining your understanding of period poverty and the need for period education in Hong Kong. This could include your perspective on the challenges faced by marginalised communities in accessing menstrual products and information, as well as your ideas on how to improve menstrual health awareness and accessibility.
    2. Your updated CV, with sharing of any past work or experiences related to gender equity, body positivity, or menstrual health and education.
  • Shortlisted students may be invited to attend an interview arranged by FPHK (details to be confirmed).
