Code to Care (C2C) (PGDE-FT) (New)
Background of Community Partner
Youth Global Network (YGN) was established in 2013 and is a registered non-profit organisation in Hong Kong with a staff size of around 40. By converging and networking different resources, we expand the horizons of youth with global perspectives. Through education, vocational training and mentoring, young people can gain skills and develop a stronger sense of identity and purpose to serve their local society.
Project Objectives
Code for Care (C2C) is a project under YGN that aims to provide alternative pathways for less resourceful youth to gain more technology education, employment opportunities and social integration through innovative computer coding and community mentoring programmes.
The plan is to engage three hostels with a high percentage of SEN students and one School for Social Development (SSD) with all SEN students. A mentoring scheme is coupled with the coding curriculum to support students’ collaborative learning and community engagement. The state-of-the-art curriculum would help students to self-learn, think logically, solve problems systematically and develop confidence, motivation and grit. We have improved the popular programming tool, MIT App Inventor, to make it accessible to under-resourced and technologically inexperienced youth.
