BBED6812 Developing Language Learning Tools Using Vibe Coding for Special Education (New)

Project Details

This course aims to co-create functional English language learning tools for pupils with special educational needs (SEN) using vibe coding — a generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) approach in which users describe desired functionality in natural language, and AI generates executable code with the participating pupils. Partnering with a local special school in Hong Kong serving pupils with mild intellectual disabilities, students will engage in authentic, project-based learning to develop accessible language-learning applications.

The course aims to address the growing need for educators to use Gen AI constructively while bridging theory-practice gaps through Design Thinking methodology. Students will work intensively with school teachers and students to understand authentic learning needs, then use Lovable and other free vibe coding platforms to create functional tools without extensive programming knowledge. Through systematic needs assessment, iterative prototyping and user feedback cycles, students will develop both digital literacy competencies and inclusive education perspectives.

The course is designed for students without technical coding experience or a programming background. Students from different educational backgrounds who have a keen interest in the English language education or language education are welcome. Interested students will be invited for an interview before or during the course enrolment period.
