From Legacy to Leadership: Reimagining Higher Education Governance in Hong Kong
Set against Hong Kong’s distinctive role as an East–West bridge and an emerging hub of international higher education, and as one of the few societies where families and the wider community remain strongly committed to investing in higher education, this high-level dialogue convenes internationally renowned scholars of higher education and a senior representative of the University Grants Committee (UGC) to reflect on the future of Hong Kong’s higher education sector amid global uncertainties and unprecedented human connectivity. The conversation will consider how governance models might evolve beyond traditional, historically inherited arrangements toward more forward-looking, agile, and responsive frameworks. The speakers will examine how Hong Kong’s universities can more proactively engage with regional, national, and global developments, and how governance reforms can further strengthen the city’s strategic position in the international higher education landscape.
