Notes for non-local students

All students without the right of abode/right to land in Hong Kong must apply for a student visa for the purpose of education from the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD).  It is the responsibility of individual students to make appropriate visa arrangement before they come to Hong Kong.

All student visa applicants are required to have a local sponsor.  They should request the HKU Admissions and Academic Liaison Section (AAL) to be their visa sponsor.  Details on student visa application procedures can be viewed at https://www.studentvisa.hku.hk/.  There are two routes of online visa application:

(i) Application from PRC mainland students: https://studentvisa-prc.hku.hk

(ii) Application from international/Macao/Taiwan students: https://studentvisa-international.hku.hk

The processing time for application of a student visa requires approximately 10 weeks.
