MPhil and 4-year PhD students are required to complete the prescribed coursework requirement (Graduate School courses and Faculty courses) before thesis submission. Students are advised to discuss their course selection with their supervisors. The course selection will be considered by the supervisor and the FHDC.
3-year PhD students registered before September 1, 2011 are not required by the degree regulations and procedures to take coursework but may take the courses offered to MPhil and 4-year PhD students if they find the course(s) relevant to their studies. Once they are officially enrolled in any course, they will be assessed like all other students in class and their results including failures will be printed on their transcripts. For 3-year PhD students registered on or after September 1, 2011, they are required to take the Graduate School course Research Ethics for Graduate Students before the end of the probationary period IF they have not completed equivalent training in previous research degree programmes.
