About "INSTEP"
In-service education is an integral part of the continuing professional development of teachers after their initial training. "INSTEP" (In-service Teacher Education Programme) is an initiative of the Faculty of Education, HKU, to provide non-award bearing in-service education opportunities for the teaching profession in Hong Kong.
Introduced in 1986, INSTEP was a response to an increasing demand for in-service education provisions in the school sector and the relative lack of such provisions in the Hong Kong community at that time.
The INSTEP Office of the Faculty has been offering government-commissioned in-service teacher training courses since 1991. To date, INSTEP courses have been attended by innumerable teachers from various subject disciplines. These courses are fully funded by the Government and are provided free to teachers, mostly on a first come, first served basis.
Apart from providing government-commissioned in-service teacher training
courses, the INSTEP Office also provides consultancy service to schools to help
them design and organize staff development activities for teachers. If you
are interested in enquiring about fees for this service or other matters,
please contact Ms M. Chung of the INSTEP Office by phone at 2859 1936 or by
e-mail at mlkchung @ hku.hk.
