In-service education is an integral part of the continuing professional development of teachers after their initial training. "INSTEP" (In-service Teacher Education Programme) is an initiative of the Faculty of Education, HKU, to provide non-award bearing in-service education opportunities for the teaching profession in Hong Kong.
Introduced in 1986, INSTEP was a response to an increasing demand for in-service education provisions in the school sector and the relative lack of such provisions in the Hong Kong community at that time.
The INSTEP Office of the Faculty has been offering government-commissioned in-service teacher training courses since 1991. Teachers, with their school principals' endorsement, normally apply for these courses via the Education Bureau's (EDB) Training Calendar System. These courses are fully funded by the EDB and are provided free to teaches, mostly on a first come, first served basis. To date, INSTEP course have been attended by innumerable teachers from across a broad range of subject disciplines.
Apart from providing government-commissioned in-service teacher professional development courses, the Faculty also provides consultancy service to help schools design and organize staff development activities. If you are interested in knowing more about this service, please contact Ms Chung of the INSTEP Office by phone at 28591936 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
