Dean’s Message
Welcome to the Faculty of Education at the University of Hong Kong. It is my great privilege to lead the Faculty as Dean and to introduce you to the Faculty and the University.
In 1917 teacher education was provided through the Faculty of Arts. This continued for nearly 60 years until a separate School of Education was formed in 1976. This developed into the Faculty of Education in 1984. Today the Faculty is a multifaceted body responsible not only for programmes in education at all levels but also for exercise and health, information management and speech and hearing sciences.
We have a strong commitment to research. We are proud that our research has impact both within the various academic fields represented by faculty members and within the professional fields and realms of practice represented within the Faculty's scope.
We are proud also that within the Faculty we engage in multiple partnerships within Hong Kong, in mainland China, in the region, and internationally. Our graduates play major roles at different levels in the professional fields related to education and speech and hearing sciences, both locally and elsewhere. Professional and community links also arise from consultancy services and research projects. Many of our academic staff are involved with policy-making bodies and international professional organisations.
Our success can be attributed to the dedication of a truly-international team of over 100 academic staff. I invite you to learn more about us through this website, and to get in touch with me and/or colleagues in specialist areas if you require additional information.
